Jerry Robbins, 73, of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

Born May 8, 1944 in Joliet, IL, Gerald Lee was a son of Gerald E. and Jane (Doyle) Robbins. He was raised in Wilton Township and graduated from Peotone High School with the Class of 1962. On August 20, 1966, Jerry married Loretta M. Long in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wilton Center, and together they made their home and raised their family in Florence Township.

Jerry farmed his entire life in Wilton and Florence Townships, and retired from Commonwealth Edison, Dresden Station. Following his retirement he worked for Florence Township. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the John Deere Two-Cylinder Club. Jerry was also a regular volunteer for Kuzma Care Cottage in Wilmington.

He was an avid antique tractor and car enthusiast, and could fix anything. Jerry collected scale models and enjoyed making his rounds through the countryside visiting with neighbors and friends. His greatest hobby was being a grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Loretta; four children: Mike (Jennifer) Robbins of Morris, Steve (Janet) Robbins of Wilmington, Sue (Tom) Carroll of Barrington and Mark (Michelle) Robbins of Woodridge; (12) grandchildren: Jordan, Claire and Nolan Robbins, Steven, Holly, Noelle and Patrick Robbins, Colleen and Kate Carroll and Luke, Lily and Lexi Robbins; one brother Jack (Linda) Robbins of Wilmington; two sisters: Rosalie (the late John) Thatcher of Wilmington and Margaret (Arnie) Johnson of Manhattan; his step-mother, Doris Robbins of Peotone; mother-in-law: Loretta Long of Manhattan, and two sisters-in-law: Janet Robbins of Villa Park and Cathy (Paul) Engler of Manhattan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: David Robbins, Ed Robbins and Richard Robbins in infancy; two sisters: Maxine Robbins and Mary Jane Robbins, and his father-in-law Francis Long.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, October 15, 2017 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow Monday morning, October 16, 2017 – meeting at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 14936 West Wilmington-Peotone Road in Wilton Center at 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Sebastian Gargol.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the services, and a private family inurnment will be in Mt. Saint Patrick Cemetery in Wilton Center.
