After proudly serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he married Joan Kiefer on February 17, 1951. She preceded him in death on September 15, 2007 after 56 years of marriage.

Rex's military service placed him aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington both during and after the war. His chosen career following his stint with the Navy was as an operating engineer during electrical work for the Midwest Operating Engineers. That profession also led to his lifetime membership in Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Rex A. Roberts departed this life on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the age of 90 years and 4 months. He is survived by his daughters Jillene McCasland and her husband Steve of Savannah, Tennessee and Terri Jo Kretz of Hebron, Indiana, as well as his 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Kretz of Lafayette, Indiana, Kelly Frye of Hammond, Indiana, Anthony A. Click of Lowell, Indiana, Martin Roberts of Yupa City, California, and Tiffany Raby of Florida. He is also survived by his 2 sisters and 2 brothers along with 8 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Rex was preceded in death by his son, Stanley Allen Roberts and his brother, Max Roberts.
