Bowmer, Dorothy Lee Von Allmen, 91, died Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Treyton Oak Towers Nursing Home.

Dorothy was born in Louisville to Godfrey and Flora Von Allmen, owners of the Von Allmen Dairy, one of Louisville's prominent dairies of the early 1900s. She attended high school at the Kentucky Home School for Girls and college at the University of Louisville and the Art Academy of Cincinnati. After college, she became a graphic artist for Seagrams Distillery where she met her future husband, William S. Bowmer II. After a courtship that lasted almost 10 years, they remained married for 43 years until Bill's death in 2004 at age 90.

Dorothy had a long career as a graphic artist in Louisville. She worked at various ad agencies, including Doe Anderson, Naiser Advertising, and McCann-Erickson. In an era where advertising was a male dominated industry, Dorothy was an early feminist, relentless in her pursuit of equal pay and equal treatment. While working full-time, she remained an engaged and loving mother of 3 children. Her passion for art never wavered. She continued to take art classes well into her 80s and completed many heartfelt projects including portraits of all her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren.

She bequeathed her body to the University of Louisville School of Medicine to help further health science-related education and research. The family would like to thank the staff at Treyton Oak Towers for taking such good care of their mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to DuPont Manual Visual Arts Program, 120 West Lee St., Louisville, KY 40208.
