Venita Goss Peppers, 86, of 982 Old Cedartown Road, Rockmart, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4 in a local nursing home following several years of declining health. She was born in Polk County on Oct. 19, 1918, a daughter of the late Joel Edward Goss and Sarah Knight Goss. Mrs. Peppers had lived her entire life in Polk County where she was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. She and her late husband Elmo owned and operated Peppers Enterprises for many years. She was a member of Rockmart #321 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Rockmart Womans Club. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Ellen Peppers in 1973, by her husband, Elmo Z. Peppers in 2001 and by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Nanna Yarbrough, Rockmart and Angela Ashworth, Cartersville; and two granddaughters. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Robinson and Rev. Todd Brown officiating. Interment followed in Polk Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers included the following: Eddie Goss, Randy Goss, Charles Goss, Joe Goss and Tommy Tarbush. The deacons of Bethlehem Baptist Church and members of the Rockmart Chapter #321 of the Eastern Star served as honorary pallbearers.
