Naomi Frances Allen Thompson, 90, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Lynchburg, VA. Family was the center of her life; whether it was watching her two granddaughters over the summers as they were growing up, or being like a second mom when her nieces and nephews experienced the loss of their own mother at an early age. She was always caring for her immediate and extended families, making sure they had everything they needed. Her church life played an important role her in life as well. Volunteering, hosting and serving in many capacities allowed her to give generously to those around her. She is probably most known for her camping trips and adventures with her husband. They belonged to the Good Sam's camping club and spent the winter months in Plant City, Florida with several other couples in a small camping park in the middle of an orange grove. One of her favorite trips was when they took their camper on a 3-month cross-country trip to Alaska. When someone asked her two granddaughters "how do you most remember her?" they immediately responded with "Being in the kitchen cooking our favorite dishes and desserts for us â€" whether it was spaghetti, grilled cheese sandwiches, Nannie's Yellow Cake, her famous sugar cookies, or making homemade ice cream… she loved providing others what they wanted to make them happy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Donald Thompson, and by her daughter, Suzanne Thompson Burger Crawford of Bedford, VA. She is survived by her two granddaughters, Melinda Cohan of Roanoke, VA and Stephanie Burger of Asheville, NC. The family would like to thank the special caregivers at Runk & Pratt and Seven Hills Hospice. A graveside service will be held at 2pm, Saturday June 17, 2017 at Greenwood Cemetery in Bedford, VA. Ken Burger will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in Naomi's name may be made to Central Avenue Christian Church, 1501 Osborne St, Humboldt, TN 38343.
