Robert L. Gerdes, 90, and Helena J. Gerdes, 92, Adams, entered heaven together on Sunday, March 11, 2007. Robert was born May 22, 1916, in Hallam, Neb., to Miena A. and Ottilia (Ruhl) Gerdes. Helena was born Feb. 12, 1915, in Roca, Neb., to Pieter and Johanna (Van Schooten) Gerritsen. Robert and Helena were married in Cortland, Neb., on Feb. 24, 1939. Both were dairy farmers. Robert was a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroads and a stationary engineer for American Stores. Both were former members of Cortland Congregational Church and current members of Holland Reformed Church.

Family members include: son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marilyn Gerdes of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; daughter and son-in-law, Judeen and James Price of Firth, Neb.; grandchildren and spouses, R. Todd and Lisa Gerdes of Conway, Ark., Dane M. and Gina Gerdes of Rayville, Mo., Kipp A. Funeral services: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Holland Reformed Church. Officiating: The Rev. Randy Blumer. Visitation will begin 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday; 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Metcalf Funeral Home, 309 Nemaha, Firth; and one hour before service at the church. Burial at Cortland Cemetery, Cortland, Neb. Memorials may be given to Holland Reformed Church, 22005 South 96th Street, Holland, NE 68372.
