Grace (Quesenberry) Sanders, age 86, of Oakland, Oregon, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017, after a short battle with ovarian cancer. Grace was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 14, 1930, to Harry and Eloisa (Garcia) Quesenberry. Grace is one of twelve children.

She grew up in Texas before moving to California, where she met the love of her life, Joseph (Joe) Franklin Sanders. They wed on October 28, 1949, in San Diego County, California.

Grace opened her home and heart to all. Over the years she willingly took in many foster children, which she cared for and loved as her own. She believed that every child deserved a mother’s touch and the comfort of a loving home. It did not matter how tired she was or how small her place; everyone knew for good food and company to stop by and see Grace. You would always find her in the kitchen; she was passionate about her food.

Grace and her family moved to Oakland, Oregon, in 1968. Never having lived in the country, she taught herself to raise a garden, how to can foods and to do many other new things. She would frequently take the family to the Umpqua River to spend the day swimming and barbecuing; and she loved to go fishing. She loved to travel so much that she would coordinate groups for cross-country trips or cruises. She loved to have a good time whether it be dancing, cooking, traveling, or enjoying the great outdoors. It was her family’s tradition to get together before Christmas to make tamales. She loved watching the Ducks football games; and would sport her gear to watch the games. It always brightened her day when her grand or great-grandkids would come by to visit.

Grace is survived by her son, Jerold Sanders and his wife Chris of Oakland, Oregon; daughter, Karen Yvonne Pepiot and her husband Tony of Crescent City, California; daughter, Donna Keymel and her husband Jeff of Sutherlin, Oregon; grandchildren, Becky Bright-Jones and her husband Andy of Sutherlin, Oregon, Heather Horvath of Sutherlin, Oregon, Samantha Thuotte and her husband Mike of Chatsworth, California, Ryan Pepiot and his wife Chanel of Simi Valley, California, Travis, Nickolas and Trisha Keymel of Sutherlin, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Jarrod Bright and his wife McKenna of Corvallis, Oregon, Maddie Bright of Sutherlin, Oregon, Hannah Horvath of Sutherlin, Oregon, Kaylee Sanders-Davis of Sutherlin, Oregon, McKenna Sanders of Sutherlin, Oregon, and Lila Pepiot of Simi Valley, California; sisters, Betty Fuentes of Oakland, Oregon, Bessie Hamp and her husband Leroy of Sutherlin, Oregon; brother, David Quesenberry and his wife Ina of Oceanside, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five sisters; three brothers; and two granddaughters (Melissa Thomas and Ashley Keymel).

The family is planning a Celebration of Life potluck on Saturday, October 14th, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Pineview Estates Club House (1600 E. Central) in Sutherlin.
