Jon Douglas Reed, 75, of Spotsylvania County passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

Jon was born in Three Rivers, Michigan, the son of Gretchen and Robert Reed. He is predeceased in death by one sister, Constance. Jon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Jon attended Northwestern University, the University of Rhode Island and graduated from Midwestern Broadcasting School in Traverse City, Michigan. He enjoyed a long and illustrious career in the broadcasting industry, having served as radio program director in New Orleans, Denver, Kansas City, Dayton and in Fredericksburg at WFLS for 13 years. After retiring from WFLS, Jon continued with his love of radio with WGRQ until the time of his death. As a program director and announcer, Jon was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for excellence throughout his broadcasting career. Jon was an avid aviation enthusiast having attained a Certified Flight Instructor rating and a Commercial Pilot license with an instrument rating. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending summer vacations on Kiawah Island, South Carolina with all of his family. He will be forever missed and loved.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie Reed; his children, Bradley Reed (Aurore), Douglas Reed (Penelope), and Shannon Coleman (Patrick); and his grandchildren, Ryan Coleman, Jack Coleman, Sabina Reed, Simone Reed, and Alex Reed.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 12 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 13 at St. Jude Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
