Born November 18, 1911 in Monroe, Utah, to Levi and Ethel Mortensen. Married Eleanor Eberhardt, later divorced. Married Phyllis Jane Talmadge, later divorced. At the time of his death, he was married to Helene "Ulla" Kirchhoefer Mortensen.
He was the founder and president of the Mountain States Creamery Company located in Salt Lake City. Also a member of Rotary International and past president of the American Butter Institute. He was known throughout the dairy industry as a leader in his field. He attended West High School in Salt Lake City, and the University of Washington, where he was affiliated with the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two sons, John and David. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survived by his wife, Helene; sister, June (Al) Bodi; sons, John (Carol) Mortensen; David Mortensen; daughters, Jane Williams, Mary (Kevin) Doyle, Ellen Mortensen; grandchildren, Casey (Sadano) Porciuncula, Hope (Jake) Malloy, Jeremy Williams, Keaton and Tammy Doyle. He is preceded in death by his brother, Orris, and sister Connie (Carl) Woolsey.
Funeral services Saturday December 17, 1994, at 11 a.m. at the Spilsbury Desert Rose Mortuary, 58 North 100 East, St. George, Utah.
A memorial open house will be held in Salt Lake City for family and all friends, at the home of John and Carol Mortensen at 10490 Seven Springs (3360 East) Sandy, Utah, on Sunday, December 18, 1994 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions sent to the American Cancer Society.
