Elmer Reed, age 86, of Cynthiana, Kentucky, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Grand Haven Nursing Home, in Cynthiana. He was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, on October 3, 1931, to the late Asa and Elizabeth Reed. He was a lifelong tobacco farmer and raised cattle.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Anna Frances Henson Reed; a son, John Thomas Reed; two brothers, William Asa Reed and Raymond Reed; and a great-great grandchild, Easton Levi Carter. He is survived by: two daughters, Mary Kay (Terry) Crump and Deborah Ann (Gary) Hicks, both of Cynthiana; a granddaughter, Jennifer Florence Jones, of Cynthiana, who made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Reed; a brother, Bobby Reed, of Washington state; a sister, Geneva Long, of North Middletown, Kentucky; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home by Rev. Paul Marksberry. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bluegrass Hospice Care, 1317 US Highway 62 East, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031. Active pallbearers will be Jon Boggs, Terry Crump, Jr., Daniel Hicks, Elmer Don Reed, Kenneth Reed, John Reed, Jr., and John Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom McKee, Marvin Cracraft, Ricky Debrueler and Charlie Hanna.
