Suffolk - Elizabeth Simpkins Marchant, 89, died October 6, 2017. A native of St. Stephen's Church, VA, she was the widow of Howard Leland Marchant. She was a secretary for the State of Virginia Chamber of Commerce and later for Cox High School in Virginia Beach. Liz was a member of Churchland Baptist Church, the GFWC Junto Woman's Club, Junto Book Club and Cedar Point Country Club. She was active in several bridge and Mahjong groups.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances Lee Robb (Joel); two sons, William A. Marchant and Howard L. Marchant, Jr. (Meredith); nine grandchildren, Sandra Barnes, William "BJ" Marchant, Allison Taber, Ashlee Robb, Katherine "Katie Jo" Marchant, Jenna McCoy, Kristen Marchant, Christopher Marchant and Kimberly Marchant; and three great-grandchildren, Corbin Barnes, Charlotte Barnes and Elizabeth Taber.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 2 PM in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk, by Dr. Dan Koger. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour before the service. Burial will be at a later date at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery in Deltaville, VA.
