Elroy J. Steiner, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Bay Pines V.A. Medical Center in Bay Pines, Fla.

He was born on June 19, 1922, in Charlesburg, Wis., a son of Anton and Ann Bell Steiner. On Nov. 22, 1945, he married Romilda Rieth at New Holstein.

 Mr. Steiner served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an honorary member of Marytown Veterans Club and a member of American Legion Post No. 124. He and his wife operated Steiner's Tavern in Marytown. He also was involved in carpentry as a trade and a hobby. He tremendously enjoyed gardening, yard care and flowers.

Mr. Steiner was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown and its Holy Name Society. After retirement, he and his wife spent their winters in Florida and summers in Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife, Romilda; four daughters, Audrey Karls and her husband Joseph of Johnsburg, Joyce Schoenborn and her husband Roger, and Lori Heus and her husband James, all of Marytown, and Shirley Moioffer and her husband Randy of Fond du Lac; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sisters, Asella Geiser and her husband Leo of Chanhassen, Minn., and Aurelia Lodes of Chilton; three brothers, Ervin Steiner and his wife Dorothy of Largo, Fla., Herbert Steiner and his wife Marion of New Holstein, and Eugene Steiner and his wife Rosie of Charlesburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends.

 Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sons, Allen and John.
