Veteran Retired Major Carl "Pinky" Gordon was called to Higher Command May 31, 2017. Carl was born in Hattieville, KS April 5, 1923. He was preceded in death by his father, Arch; mother, Helen; and four siblings, Alen, Lee, Donald, and Dorthy Gordon. Carl is survived by his wife, Francis Maritt Gordon; daughter, Amanda, and son-in-law, Larry Gilles; grandson, Brandon & wife Brittanie Gilles; great-grandchildren, Paisley and Brady Gilles; extended family; two stepsons; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews in Fort Scott, KS. Carl enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and earned his Commissioned Wings in 1944. He served in World War II as a fighter pilot. Carl flew 108 combat missions, earning many metals and decorations during his time in the military. Carl loved to fly. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, bridge, gin, and completing crossword puzzles. He loved spending time with friends and family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 8, 2017, at 4 p.m. at Hibbs Funeral Home in Choctaw, OK. Following services, there will be visitation and food at the Gordon family home.
