Duane entered the Navy right after graduating from Missoula County High School, serving four years on active duty. After leaving active duty, he served 19 more at the Naval Reserve in Missoula, retiring Honorably in 1977 and obtaining the distinctive rank of Chief Petty Officer (CPO). Duane also worked for 33 years at Sears and 10 years with Beach Transportation.
Duane met the love of his life, Marie Caluori, right after graduating high school in 1954 and they were married on Dec. 15, 1956. Then, for the next 60 years they had the full-time job of raising four (+) children and the 12 grandchildren.
He was an avid outdoorsman where he could be constantly found hunting, fishing, or spending time up at his cabin where he would be enjoying nature. However, the thing he enjoyed most was being and having an active role in all his children’s lives. He made sure he attended their varsity sporting events, no matter where they were in the state, he took them camping or hunting on every available weekend, but most of all, no matter what, he was always there for them. However, he also had a great sense of humor where he jokingly would say he wished them all three – sons, or refer to his grandchildren as his natural allies because they both had the same natural enemy!
Duane is preceded in his death by his mother and father, brothers Donald and Dennis.
A memorial service is planned for Oct. 12, 2017 at 10:30 at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula with a reception following at St Anthony’s Parish at 11:30.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Partners in Home Care Hospice or the Missoula Senior Center.
