Major League Baseball Player. Born Don Wilson Lock, he played the center field position for three Major League Baseball teams (Washington Senators, Philadelphia Phillies, and Boston Red Sox) during an eight year career. He attended Wichita State University where he was a two-sport standout athlete. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1958, but never played a Major League Baseball game for them. He was a member of the Yankees' Triple-A farm team, the Richmond Virginians, when on July 11, 1962, he was traded to the Washington Senators. He played left field for the Senators for the rest of the 1962 season, but became their regular center fielder the next season. He continued with the Senators until 1967 when he went to the Philadelphia Phillies. He played for the Phillies for two seasons before going to the Boston Red Sox in 1969. He retired after the 1969 season and later became a minor league manager. His two most productive seasons were in 1963 and 1964, when he hit 27 and 28 home runs and drove home 82 and 80 runs batted in respectively. He also led American League center fielders in put-outs, assists and double plays turned in 1963, and all American League outfielders in assists the following year. As a batter, he finished second in the league in strikeouts in both 1963 and 1964. His career statistics were 122 home runs, 373 RBIs, and a .238 batting average. He was later inducted into the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974, the Wichita State Sports Hall of Fame in 1979 and the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
