Dixie J. Snyder, 73, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday October 8, 2017 at the home of brother in Elkhart. She was born February 19, 1944 in Justice, West Virginia to Birch Levi & Nora (Blankenship) Shannon. In 1983 she married David Snyder. He preceded her in death in 2016. Surviving are 4 children, Cathy (Rick) Ellsworth, Steve Shannon, Michelle Hartman-Torres, Shane (Rich) Osowski all of Elkhart; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ray (Mildred) Shannon of Marion, IN, Paul (Marissa) Shannon of Elkhart and a sister, Wanda Patrick of Logan, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Fern Winters and Martha Earl. Dixie was a member of the Silver Sneakers Club and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He grandson received the Eagle Scout Award. Dixie was an entrepreneur; she was the first women press operator in Elkhart, she worked at Excel for several years, owned a restaurant, a fiberglass company and a van painting company. She will always be remembered for her kindness and gracious generosity. Cremation will take place and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with her care. Memorial contributions may be given to the Boy Scouts of America.
