Mary Theresa Paul was born in what would later become Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 19, 1862. She went to Montana in 1879 where she was known as Mrs. M.T. Davis, although nothing is known about her first husband. She became the common-law wife of John C. Griffin around 1880 and they had 9 children, eventually getting married in 1902.
After John Griffin's death in 1913 she married George Lindley Coulson in Havre, Montana in 1915. They moved to Plamondon, Alberta in 1917, where they farmed for a number of years. Mary passed away in Edmonton on December 23, 1938 at the old Misericordia Hospital at the age of 76.
She is buried in St. Joachim's Cemetery in Edmonton in an unmarked grave.
