Mrs. Elizabeth Virginia Franklin Holmes was born January 20, 1930 in Marion, Louisiana to Floyd and Edra Day Franklin. She was educated at Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, received her Bachelors in Nursing Education at L.S.U., and her Masters in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso.
She married Charles Holmes on August 12, 1961. Mrs. Holmes had a long career in nursing, eventually serving as a school nurse for over 20 years in El Paso, Texas. She was a home healthcare nurse in Carthage, Texas before retiring. Mrs. Holmes was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church and was active along with her husband in a number of charitable and service organizations. Mrs. Holmes loved nature, especially wildflowers, birds, and beautiful sunsets, and was an avid reader. She was strong, compassionate, practical, generous, hardworking, and loved by family and friends.
Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband to whom she had been married 53 years. She was additionally predeceased by brothers, Randolf Eugene, John R., Bill, Charlie and wife Ramah, Ike, Gerald, Terry and wife Faye, and Ricky Franklin, and brother in law, Johnny Blake.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by her sister, Myra Blake, brothers, Mike and Fred Franklin, son, Mark Holmes, daughter, Amy Holmes and husband Chris Kueny and grandchildren, Maia and Shane Kueny. She is also survived by her brother in law, Tommy Holmes and wife Sally, sister in laws, Faye, Marie, Betty, Diane and Jacque Franklin, and Diann Hilton, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Blain Franklin, John Calvin Franklin, Dale Dean, Tommy Holmes, Kenneth Holmes and Fred Franklin. The family requests memorial donations to St. Paul Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Assoc.
