He was an Italian motorcyclist and aviator veteran of World War I, decorated with three Silver medals for bravery. He was the inspiration of the Moto Guzzi motorcycle company together with Carlo Guzzi and Giorgio Parodi. At 11.30 on August 11, 1919, when he returned from a long flight test, he crashed on the Venetian aviation airfield of San Nicoletto's naval base due to the sudden shutdown of the engine during landing, his Nieuport 11.
