Born to Herbert and Mary Lou Reeves Harrelson. He grew up and went to school in Weldon, Texas. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served in World War II on the U.S.S. John L. Williamson. After returning from the service, Bunk and Geraldene were married on November 7, 1948.
Bunk served as a dog handler with the Texas Department of Corrections. Bunks' dogs were recognized across the state for their exceptional performance. Later he was in the trucking industry, Chief of Police for Trinity, Texas and served as Sheriff and Road Commissioner for Trinity County.
