115 Squadron's Vickers Wellington Mk III (#BJ898) KO-C aircraft, with an aircrew of five, took off from Wretham on an air operation over Mannheim, Germany. The Wellington failed to return to base, having been shot down by a German fighter; the aircraft crashed, taking the lives of the entire crew.
