Mr. LeRoy James "L. J." West, 81, a resident of Whistler, MS died Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born Monday, January 6, 1936 to Lenwood Leon and Sallie Mae Eidson West in Wayne County. On December 26, 1957 he married Myrtle Annette Henry. He worked in the oilfield industry and had retired from Kelley Brothers Contractors, Inc. in Waynesboro, MS after 52 years of service. He was an active member of Boyles Chapel United Methodist Church since he was baptized and joined there in October of 1975.

He is survived by his wife Myrtle Annette (Henry) West, daughter Sarah Lanette (West) Crocker, grandsons First Sergeant Gregory Alexander (wife Jasmine) Croker and Alex Jayrid Crocker, great grandchildren Madelyn Elizabeth "Maddie Beth" Crocker and Cason James Crocker, two brothers Willie James (Joan) West and Thomas E. (Louise) West, and sister-in-law Annie Ruth West.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Leon E. "Stub" West, and one grandson Jayrid Will Croker.

Visitation for Mr. West will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, October 5, 2017 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM with a lie-in-state from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday, October 6, 2017 from Boyles Chapel United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Glenn Freeman and Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Interment will be in Boyles Chapel Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS. Pallbearers are from Kelley Brothers Contractors, Inc.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to help in building the Multi-Purpose Building in Wayne County.
