Perella A. (Andrus) Tull of Traverse City, Michigan passed away October 4, 2017 at Orchard Creek Supportive care surrounded by her family. Perella was born in Perkins, Michigan on January 20, 1917, daughter of the late Ira and Laura (Badger) Andrus. She married Maurice “Bud” Tull on July 17, 1942, who preceded her in death on November 15, 1982.
Perella grew up in northwest Michigan on an Old Mission farm known as the Ridgewood. During her high school years, she boarded with a couple in Traverse City, and worked so she could finish her high school education at St. Francis High School, where she graduated in 1934. That summer she was on the Queen's court representing the National Cherry Festival. In recent years, on the Grandview Parkway, she could be seen on the 1934 Cherry Festival banner as she stood beside the Queen. After high school, she worked at the Traverse City State Hospital as an aide. Later, she moved to the Detroit area, where she met her husband, Bud. She raised her 4 children in Detroit and Royal Oak, Michigan. Perella retired from William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where she was a Unit Clerk, and eventually moved back to Traverse City in 1989, where her children also live.
Over her lifetime, Perella enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle, bridge – at one time belonging to 3 bridge clubs at once - and she loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.. She was an artist of many talents – a self taught painter, seamstress, knitter and crafter. She loved animals, reading, listening to music, watching the Detroit Tigers and sitting or going for walks in the sunshine. This past January Perella was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in a joyous celebration of her 100th birthday.
She is survived by one sister, Barbara (Thomas) Bee of Traverse City, her four children: Barbara (Wendell) Lawrence, Douglas (Lori) Tull, Faye (David) Mathia and Maureen Clement; 10 grandchildren: Timothy (Tracey) Tull, Ann-Marie (Brian) Bishop, Jeffrey (Abigail) Tull, Jennifer (James) Carpenter, Megan (Tyler) Long, Curtis Clement, Laura (Carter) Jones, Madison (Kevin) Olsen, Jillian Clement and Reagan Tull; 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband of 40 years, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Lawrence “Bud” Andrus, Edward Andrus, Ivan Andrus, Theodore Andrus, Francis Andrus, 3 sisters: Violet Bellinger, Martha Schlosser, Jean Jackson, and her granddaughter, Kimberly Mathia.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful support and love given to Perella by the caring staff of both Hospice of Michigan and Orchard Creek Supportive Care, where Perella resided since November of 2014.
A visitation celebrating Perella’s life will be held on October 20, 2017 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral home from 6-8 pm. Per Perella's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Mapleton.
