Evelyn Zollinger Ross, 97, passed away Friday October 6, 2017 at her residence. Born April 7, 1920 in New Haven Indiana, she graduated from New Haven High School and International Business College. Her first job was with the Allen County Agricultural Association in the Federal Building. When World War II broke out, it was her job to write many letters to "Uncle Sam" to request exemptions of farm boys from being drafted into the military. Later on, she worked for the Allen County Auditor's office and the County Commissioners for several years. In 1964 when construction began on the Towne House Retirement Community she was employed as a secretary. She held several positions in administration and sales, retiring in 2007. Evelyn was an avid euchre player and also loved flowers. At one time she and her husband had over a thousand peony plants on their property. Evelyn was a long time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and in the last few years was active in their Senior Saints Programs.

Survivors include her beloved daughter Deborah A. Ross; daughter in-law Pamela "Darda" (Marty) Townsend of Keizer, Oregon and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents Martin and Christina Zollinger; husband Kenneth Ross; son Daniel Ross; sister Lorene Ehle and brother Burdette Zollinger.

Services will be 11 am Thursday Oct. 12, 2017 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be 5-8 pm Wednesday October 11, 2017 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd. Entombment at Concordia Gardens Cemetery.
