Kenneth D. Barnard, 71, Beatrice, died Friday evening, Oct. 1, 2004, at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. He was born Sept. 3, 1933, south of Beatrice, graduated from Beatrice High School in 1951 and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Charlene Bartlett on June 29, 1955, in the Ellis United Methodist Church. They farmed in the Aurora community for several years, moving back to farm south of Ellis in 1963. He retired from farming in recent years. He was a member of the Ellis United Methodist Church, the Diller Legion Post 282 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club in Beatrice. He was also a past member of the Diller Community School Board and the Gage County Livestock Feeders Board. He treasured his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed his golden retriever, miniature ponies and coffee time with the area farmers.

He was preceded in death by parents, Lester and Viola (Brugh) Barnard; father-in-law, Lyman Bartlett; brothers, Robert Barnard and Lamar Barnard; and brother-in-law, Edward Bartlett.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, Ellis United Methodist Church, west of Beatrice on Highway 136, Pastor Tamara Holtz officiating. Family prayer service: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel, Seventh and Elk streets, Beatrice. Burial: Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice.
