Donald R. McHenry, 87, 391 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, died at 6:54 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been a patient for one week. He had been in failing health for the past year.

Born on Oct. 24, 1929, in Town Hill, he was the son of the late Robert C. McHenry and the late Daisy M. (Cotterman) McHenry Sangrey. He attended the Huntington Township schools and resided in Huntington Township most of his life except for the period from 1958 to 1966 when he resided in Florida.

Don was last employed as part owner of the Mc Bon Corp., Huntington Mills, working there for 16 years. Earlier he was employed as operations supervisor at the former Hanover Brands, Inc., Bloomsburg, where he worked for 20 years. He also served as a Pennsylvania State Constable for Huntington Township for many years.

He was an active member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church where he was involved with various activities over the years, including serving on the security team. He served on the board of the Scott Cemetery for many years. Don also was on the response team in Huntington Township for the Bell Bend electric generating facility.

Early in his life he participated in a family musical group, “Cactus Kate and the Yodeling Ramblers”, singing and playing the ukulele.

Don was preceded in death by a brother, Richard McHenry, and a sister, Dorothy M. “Dottie” Long.

Surviving are his wife, the former Dawn E. Martz, with whom he celebrated his 44th wedding anniversary on March 31, 2017; two sons: Jay R. McHenry and his wife, Susan, Stillwater, and Terry A. McHenry and his wife, Dorinda, Hunlock Creek; four step children: Dennis Price and his wife, Stacy, Berwick, Steven Price and his wife, Deborah, Millville, Brian J. Price and his wife, Susan, Town Hill, Sharee D., wife of Scott Hummer, Shickshinny; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Evelyn Coombs, a guest at the Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater, and Lois Moss, Town Hill; a brother, Sheldon McHenry, Town Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, with his pastor, the Rev. Bethany P. Wood, officiating. Interment will follow in Scott Cemetery, Waterton.
