Wayne Russell Stone, 87, of Pierpoint, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 after a long illness. Born April 3, 1928 in Troutdale, VA, he is the son of the late Madison and Agnes Stone.
Wayne enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bee keeper. He also enjoyed feeding his humming birds and he was a gifted musician and bowler.
Wayne was of the Christian faith, and was an active member of Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church. He greatly enjoyed going to church and participating in church activities.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by brothers, Ellis Stone; Kenneth Stone, Junior Stone; sisters, Virginia Catron and Edith Walls.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Stella Florence Stone, children Lewis Stone (Rosa); Joyce McCarthy (Lonnie); Lonnie Stone (Lana); James Stone (Ronda); 7 granddaughters, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Mary Dunford, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Pastor Charles “Butch” Acord officiating. Friends may gather with the family at Blue Ridge Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
