Harry Luther Mayo, Sr., was born September 20, 1930 in Springfield, Ohio, one of Mark and Estella (Haskell) Mayo's six children. At age 87, the Centerville, Ohio resident, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio.
Harry and his family moved to Dayton and opened Mayo skating rink in 1948. Mayo skating rink became the first black owned skating rink in the United States.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in Spokane, Washington for a few years. He returned to Dayton in 1954 and opened a Car Wash and Venetian Blind Laundry serving the local communities and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
In 1969 Harry became one of the first minority industrial suppliers to General Motors and served them for the next 25 years. He was a successful entrepreneur and business owner his entire life. Harry's businesses included packaging and assembly companies, H&M Drive thru carry out, and the 4200 Place restaurant in Moraine.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Devora Mayo; his parents, Mark and Estella Mayo; sisters, Catherine Mayo, Cleo Johnson, brothers, Mark Mayo Jr. and James Haskell Mayo.
Harry is survived by his wife Pam, his children Harry Jr, Kevin, Melissa; sister Juanita; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
