Two Ebenezer Barnes often get confused:

1. Ebenezer Barnes c.1676-1745 of Farmington, CT married (1) Deborah Orvis (c.1681-1726), and (2) MEHITABLE MABLE Barnes, daughter of Thomas Hadley Hancock and Rachel Leonard. Some believe this 2nd marriage took place c. 1727 following the death of Deborah Orvis. (Others claim this marriage occurred as late as 1743 or that Mehitable Mabel actually married Ebenezer's son!)

2. Ebenezer Barnes (c.1697-1798) of Middletown, CT, son of Maibee Maybe Barnes and Elizabeth Stowe married MEHITABLE MILLER Barnes c.1707-1776 on Dec. 22, 1727. Findagrave #137857652.

2. New England Marriages Prior to 1700, Clarence Almon Torrey (Boston: New England Historic Genealogy Society, 2011) Vol. I, p. 91. BARNES, Ebenezer (1675-1756) & Deborah ORVIS (1681-); i Apr 1699; Farmington, CT.
3. Barnes, Trescott C. The Barnes Family Yearbook (The Grafton Press, Genealogical Publishers, 70 Fifth Avenue, New York, 1907) Page 10
4. BARNES - The Westward Migration of One Line of the Descendants of The Thomas Barnes of Hartford and Farmington, Connecticut, Clair Elmer Barnes (published 1966 by the author, 4525 Keever Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90807).

It is notable that Mehitable's birth year is often shown the year following her mother's death, perhaps in childbirth?
