Betty was born, Elizabeth Ambler Gillespie on April 4, 1935 in Bluefield, WV to Carl C and Elizabeth Gillespie, and raised in Tazewell, VA.
Betty married Charles S. Maas Jr in 1956, and was widowed in 1965. Betty moved to Boulder in 1970 to attend Graduate School at The University of Colorado School of Music, earning her Master’s degree.
Betty possessed a gracious charm and effervescence that ultimately lead her to a successful career as an insurance agent for State Farm Insurance.
In 1984, Betty married the love of her life, James H. Olson. Together, they traveled the world, bicycled, skied, and made a home in Longmont, CO until his death in 2013.
Betty is survived by her brother Carl, sister Anne, sons Charles S Maas III (Karen) and James G Maas, grandchildren Hunter, Steven, Tyler, Elizabeth, Alicia, Gerald, and Kristina.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church, followed by inurnment at Saint Stephen’s columbarium. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the O.U.R. Center.
