Jimmy “Jim” Harrison Holland, 67, of Lascassas, TN died Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born May 7, 1950 in Macon County, TN to the late Carlos “Shorty” Holland and Genell “Granny” Mahaney. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and Grandaddy, and a friend to all who knew him.
Jim was a proud graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and a committed participant of the ROTC program. After graduation, Jim joined the United States Army as an officer. Upon completion of his military service at the rank of Captain, Jim received his Master’s Degree from MTSU in Industrial Organizational Psychology, preparing him for his life’s work in human resources. He served as a leader for local companies including Chromalox and Tennex before going into business for himself. A successful serial entrepreneur, Jim was the Founder of both The Holland Group and HG Staffing, providing human resources consulting and staffing services to companies all over the country. Over the course of his professional life, Jim and his team put thousands of people across the United States to work.
Jim was a devout Christian who lived his life in service of others. Jim was a charter member of Murfreesboro Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully for more than 30 years in roles including Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Treasurer. Beyond his commitment to the church, Jim was also a dedicated servant to Middle Tennessee State University and to the greater Murfreesboro community. Jim served as a past President of the MTSU Foundation Board of Trustees and worked on the advisory councils for both the Jones College of Business and the College of Behavioral Health and Sciences. He served as a past President of the Boys and Girls Club of Rutherford County and was a graduate of the 1989 class of Leadership Rutherford. Jim was also a strong supporter of the Do Re Mi Gospel Music Academy, a school dedicated to the education, preservation and promotion of shape note gospel music
Jim was a man who lived life to the fullest. He made every single second count. Jim loved to travel and, joined by his wife Laura and his dearest friends, ventured all over the world. He enjoyed college football, fishing, food, golf, annual family trips to the beach, and telling really corny jokes. He loved all kinds of music, especially gospel and show tunes. He relished a good debate and an open dialogue on virtually any subject. He wasn’t afraid to have a difficult conversation and never shied away from offering sage advice. And he loved ceaselessly, with a heart as big as his personality. In spite of his tremendous success, he was a fun-loving, kind, humble man who made the world brighter for those around him.

Survivors include his loving wife, Laura Holland of Lascassas; three daughters: Andrea (Jean-Claude) Rizk of Brentwood, Kelli (Cory) Hollandsworth of Lascassas, and Taylor (Spencer) Walker of Lascassas; six grandchildren: Alex Rizk, Joshua Rizk, Grace Hollandsworth, Natalie Hollandsworth, Emma Walker, and Mary Claire Walker; two sisters: JoAnn (Richard) Bell of Somerset, Kentucky, and Margaret (Dwight) Dotson of Lafayette, Tennessee; and countless other family and friends who loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (CDT) Sunday at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, 1488 Lascassas Pike in Murfreesboro, with Jim’s friend and pastor, Elder Kenneth Massey, officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro immediately following the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Jim’s sons-in-law, grandsons, and family friend Brent Fiore. Friends may visit with Jim’s family from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Saturday at Woodfin Funeral Chapel.
