Larry Gene Ball, 73, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2017 at the Magnolias in Santee, SC after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was greeted in heaven by his parents Arthur and Allie; brothers: Arthur (AP) and Hiram; and sisters: Betty and Eula.

Born in Miami, Florida, Larry was a graduate of Southwest High School. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service to our country, he continued his service as a Lieutenant with the Metro-Dade Fire Department where he served as a Firefighter/Paramedic for over 25 years before retiring in 1992. Larry was a member of the International Association of Firefighters. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending his time deep sea fishing in his hometown of Islamorada. He was a man who lived life on his terms. He loved his family, his dogs, the outdoors, traveling, Christmas, the Miami Dolphins, Bacardi and Diet Coke, Good & Plenty, classic country music, western movies and his beloved Florida Keys. No one was a stranger to him, he was a consummate jokester who loved to sing jingles and who always knew how to make people laugh. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, strong work ethic, his awesome mustache, his beautiful smile and his love for life.

He is survived by his daughters: Debra Palmire and Sangi Blair of Ocala, Florida; grandchildren: Jason, Brittany, Alesa, Matt and London; great grandson: Micah, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.

In honor of his wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Larry’s hometown of Islamorada. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Way of the Florida Keys. Thompson Funeral Home, Orangeburg, SC assisted the family with arrangements.
