Charles (Charlie) Abbott of Maryville, TN passed away on October 3, 2017.

He was born on September 17, 1941 to Luther and Johnnie (Lane) Abbott. The Abbott family had been displaced from Cades Cove as result of federal legislation creating the Great Smoky Mountains National park. Although Charles never resided there he had a special place in his heart for his beloved "Cove".

Charles married Shelby Yates on April 4, 1968. Shelby was his faithful mate through many adventures during their marriage. They were co-owners of the Abbott Isshinryu Karate Dojo and trained many Blount County residents over a twenty year time span in their pursuit of martial arts expertise. This included taking the Abbott dojo to many tournaments throughout the Southeast. Charles was a sixth degree black belt and a teacher with the Isshinryu samurai sword and was inducted into the Isshinryu Hall of Fame in 2001.. Among his many varied interests was a fascination with the War Between the States, research into his Scottish ancestry—Clan McNab-- and attendance/participation at many Scottish Highland Games. Charles also had a keen knowledge of cars and guns. He was a very loyal friend, a unique individual who never failed to make an impression on all people who he met.

Charles was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Burl Abbott and his sister, Sylvia (Abbott) Stooksbury.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby, nephews, Ricky Abbott and Bill Stooksbury and niece, Kristina Boring.

The family will receive friends at Smith West Chapel on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 with service following. Family and friends will assemble for burial on Friday at 2:00 at New Providence Baptist Church, 6 Mile Road, Maryville, TN.
