Cpl. Middlebrook, a resident of Youngsville, was the son of Herman Middlebrook and the former Frances Matrana. Michael proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Continuing his commitment to serve, Michael graduated from Calcasieu Parish Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy and received an award for marksmanship. He began his law enforcement career with Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office. In 2009, Michael joined the Lafayette Police Department.

In his spare time, Michael was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was a man of God, and was a dedicated husband, father, son, and brother. He will be missed dearly by family and friends. These efforts, in aiding the poor and needy, earned him the Beyond the Badge, Heart of Law Enforcement Award in March 2017.

Middlebrook was born in Thibodeaux and spent 9 years in the patrol section of the Lafayette Department "helping and truly serving the community, as was his passion," Cpl. Karl Ratcliff wrote in a news release.
