Mary died at Briton House on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Born in Wingham in 1913, she graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1936, when she and her brother George took over the family store after the sudden death of their father. She was married to Borden Spears from 1944 until his death in 1983.
They had four children: George (Kasia Seydegart), Laura Mullin (Allan), John (Elisabeth Marsden) and Tom (Deborah). Mary was a much loved grandmother of ten, and great-grandmother of nine. She was an active member and volunteer at Bedford Park United Church for more than 60 years.
She loved Bruce Beach, spending 91 summers there. She was predeceased by her brother George and sisters Gracey (Suse) and Kate McDermid; and by her parents, Tom and Adella King. A service in her memory will be held in NORTHLEA UNITED CHURCH, 125 Brentcliffe Road, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, followed by a reception.
