Douglas R. "Doug" Wise formerly of Pickens, SC passed away September 27, 2017. Doug was born December 5, 1946 in York, PA, of the late Robert A Wise and Marie Fullerton Wise. Doug was raised in Pasadena, CA and graduated from Pasadena High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably on the USS Oriskany during the Vietnam War while deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin. Doug was on board ship when the ship was stricken by a fire that threatened to sink her. Later, while on an inspection trip into Danang his plane was shot down. In both instances Doug escaped injury. When honorably discharged from the military, he was employed as a truck driver, logging well over two million miles without a chargeable accident. Doug's last job was with SCDOT where he worked for five years, befriending many fellow employees. After retirement, he devoted the majority of his time with his grandchildren who he loved dearly and spoiled completely. Mr. Wise is survived by a his son Brian and wife Yadira of San Diego, CA; his daughter, Shannon DeLoria and husband Justin of Piedmont, SC; five grandchildren, Miles and Isabel Wise of San Diego, CA, McKenzie, Trystan and Hailey DeLoria of Piedmont, CA; two brothers, Nathan Wise and his wife Miranda of Upland, CA and Robert Wise and his wife Cynthia of Easley, SC. Doug was very fortunate to have many dear friends living in PA, CA, ID, VA and SC. A few of the special ones were Darren and Dawn in PA and Carlos and Debbie Sams of SC. Doug was passionate about life, loving his family, NASCAR, drag racing and storytelling. He enjoyed a keen sense of humor his entire life and anyone who ever met Doug knew within a few minutes he could spin a yarn or tell numerous jokes in a heartbeat. This gift endeared him to all. Doug was a Christian and in his last days referred to Christ as his "buddy".
