Sheila Ann Moore, 62, of Winnabow, NC, died 15 September 2017, following a brief battle with cancer. The youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Allie Moore Jr., Miss Moore was predeceased by her mother, Mary Eugenia Lore Moore; her father, Allie Moore, Jand a brother-in-law, Gene Seay. The Moores are all formerly of Wilmington, NC. Born 4 September 1955, in Wilmington, she attended New Hanover County Schools, was graduated from Pender Academy in 1973, and from Cape Fear Community College. She worked in several capacities in chemical laboratory work, and recently retired from the State of NC. A staunch environmentalist and animals' rights activist, Sheila devoted much time, energies, and resources to local, state, and national environmental groups, and was active, until her death, with the welfare and care of animals, sponsoring any number of various animal rescue groups. During her lifetime, she showed and placed, in equestrian events across the US. She maintained her number of horses, a miniature donkey, assorted fowl and guinea hens, and a wide variety of dogs, cats, and any, and all animals in need of a home, in her barn and kennels on the family property in Winnabow. She was an enthusiastic gardener. Sheila enjoyed water sports, including sailing, participating in regattas, and water skiing. For a number of years, she contributed to the efforts of the National Audubon Society in its annual New Year's Day bird count, taking count of birds in and around the Town Creek area. Miss Moore is survived by two older siblings, Gean Moore Seay, of Wilmington, and George A. Moore III of Durham, NC, and their respective families. Sheila is also survived by a number of close personal friends, including Sue Glover Hicks, who friendship she maintained since school days in Wilmington, and whose friendship sustained her through her recent illness. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, 5 October 2017, at 3:00 p.m., at Oleander Memorial Gardens, where her ashes will be interred close to those of her parents.
