OBITUARY Iron County Reporter Sep 27 2017 “Obituaries: Mark Holmes” with photo (at right)
GREENVILLE -- Mark Holmes, 62, passed away on Sept. 20, 2017. Mark was born on Sept. 26, 1954, in Stambaugh to the late Glenn and Jane (Marquette) Holmes. He graduated from West Iron County High School in 1972.
Mark enlisted in the Air Force after completing high school and proudly served for 20 years. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and retired in October of 1992. He was fortunate to have travelled the world and was stationed in many overseas locations including England, Germany, and Iceland. He was also stationed at numerous locations stateside. It was during one of these assignments Mark met the love of his life, Nanette DeMay of Rock Island, Ill. They were married Oct. 18, 1980 and were blessed with two sons, Chris (Holly) of Rockford and Joshua of Iowa City, Iowa.
After retiring from the Air Force Mark went to work for D.A. MacPherson of Crystal Falls. He was then employed by ESCO Corporation and remained with them until his passing. Mark loved to golf, deer hunt, and enjoyed yard work, especially in his and Nanette"s vegetable garden. He cherished his time with his family. As well, he had many special memories of being with his hunting buddies Don, Ray, and Don at deer camp. He also loved to play cards.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Greg Holmes and Don Holmes; brother-in-law Alan Revord, and nephew Greg Revord.
He is survived by his wife Nanette; sons Chris and Josh; sisters Sandy Holmes, Jill (John) MacPherson, Chrissy Revord, and Jean (Paul) Dedo. He is also survived by his two beautiful granddaughters, Isabelle and Chloe of Rockford, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Mark's life will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Iron County located at 525 West Adams Street, Iron River, MI 49935. Following the memorial service, a graveside committal with military honors will take place at Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River. The Holmes family would like to invite relatives and friends to a luncheon and time of fellowship at the American Legion Reino Post 21 in Iron River after the services at the cemetery have concluded.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Iron County or to the American Legion Reino Post 21.
