Barbara Byrd Brinkley, 74, went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2017. She was born in Nansemond County, VA the daughter of the late Floyd Smith Byrd and Pearl Babb Byrd. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday School Class for numerous years while attending Calvary Baptist, Liberty Baptist, and First Baptist Church. Barbara also served as an AWANA leader and Cub Scout Den Leader. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Woman’s Club.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 57 years, James “Jimmy” Lewis Brinkley; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa A. and Mark Jacobsen; son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne L. and Shawn Brinkley; grandchildren, Christopher, Pearl (Andrew), Caleb (Christine), Josiah, Matthew, Adam, and Bethany; great grandchildren, Brayden, Grace Ann; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bobby Klages; brother and sister-in-law, Raydell and LouAnn Byrd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Thurman Hayes officiating. A private burial will be held at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family Sunday for a time of visitation from 7-9 p.m at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Diabetes Association. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
