Television Personality. Best remembered as the original host of the popular TV gameshow "Let's Make a Deal" (1963 to 1975 original series). He would appear on occasion as a guest host on further versions of "Let's Make a Deal." Born Monte Halperin, to a Jewish family, his father was a Kosher butcher. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba, prior to serving with the Royal Canadian Army during World War II. While serving, he acquired experience as a host of entertainment shows for the Army. After his return home, he relocated to the United States, where he found various jobs in radio and television. From the popularity of "Let's Make a Deal" mathematicians came up with the "Monty Hall Problem" used as a way to illustrate and approach probabilities. Hall would also appear as a guest on such TV gameshows as "Hollywood Squares," "Password Plus" and "Tattletales." In addition, he served as host for the Variety Club Telethon for charities. In 1973, he was the recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in television. His daughter Joanna Gleason became an actress. He died from heart failure.
