Samantha was born June 4, 1993 and passed away Thursday, March 8, 2007. A bright, confident student, she excelled at St. Peter's school in Lodi, and won regional spelling contests several years in a row. She studied piano, loved to read and was a very competitive Scrabble player. She loved to play golf with her dad. She was creative and enjoyed crafts with her mom, making quilts, paper flowers and butterflies for the patients at the Children's Hospitals at UCSF and Stanford. Five years ago, Samantha was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She underwent multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments with a grace and dignity that impressed all who knew her. She had an unquestioning faith that God had a plan for her, and she cheerfully accepted the difficult challenges of treating the tumor and living with the side effects. Her concern was always for others; she didn't want anyone to feel sad or afraid for her. Her courage and spirit were so inspiring that, in 2004, she was chosen by UCSF Children's Hospital to light the Christmas tree at Union Square in San Francisco. During her treatments, she remained in school and became an acolyte at St. Peter's Church. She continued to demonstrate a great sense of humor and fun, reveling in stumping her physicians, friends and family with riddles and beating them at dice. Her spirit, generosity, faith, and concern for others have sustained her and her family and friends through a most difficult time. Samantha lived her life as a child of Christ and her illness did not define her life, her faith did. Samantha's strength and comfort came from her favorite Bible verse: Philippians 4:13

Cherished daughter of Stacy and Mike Williams, older sister and "little mother" to brother George, granddaughter of Betty and the late George Williams and Donna and Dwain Olson, and beloved niece and cousin to her extended family in California, Iowa and Minnesota.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2007 from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way Lodi. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Cherokee Memorial Park and a memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church 2400 Oxford Way Lodi, CA. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up to honor Samantha's memory. Contributions may be made to the Samantha Williams Memorial Fund, care of Pacific State Bank, Account number 10001230, 501 West Kettleman Lane, Lodi CA 95240.
