Mabel L. Morris

Mabel L. Yost Morris, loving wife and mother, journeyed to her heavenly home to receive her trophy March 9, 2007.

She loved and served her Lord, her husband, her family and her many friends faithfully for 94 years. She was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Roane County to John Lemuel and Chessie Woodsie Matics Yost. Mabel was married on Sept. 12, 1931 to the Rev. Baber L. Morris with whom she served many American Baptist Churches in West Virginia. These churches included Pine Grove in Parkersburg; Briscoe Run Baptist Church, Parkersburg; Good Hope, Willow Island and Belmont Baptist Parish, all in Pleasants County; Middlebourne Baptist in Tyler County; St. Paul's Baptist in Fairview; Petersburg West Virginia Parish; Petersburg First Baptist Church; was assistant pastor at First Baptist Church, Parkersburg; and served a second time at Belmont Baptist Church. Mabel was also deeply involved in scouting over the years.

She is survived by sons, Bud L. (Dawn Rita) of Tucson, Ariz., and Michael L. (Katie) Morris of Marietta; daughters, Arleta (Don) Dennis of Okay, Okla., Mollie (Mike) Haught of Little Hocking, Carole (Ed) Toothman of Parkersburg and Darlene Henry of Hinesville, Ga.; 16 grandchildren, Mark Morris, Danny Morris, Michael Paul (April) Morris, Elizabeth Paige, Jon De Vol, Jennifer De Vol, Scott (Lorena) Dennis, Eric (Lee Ann) Dennis, Steve (Debbie) Dennis, Michael (Kathy) Haught, Brian (Kerrie) Haught, EbenHaught, Tim (Tina) Toothman, Tanya Toothman, Todd (Kelly) Toothman and Luke (Anchari) Henry; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was mother to many who needed love, encouragement and a temporary home, including Mamie Mae Piggott, Dick Thompson and Ronnie Mallory. She was a mother of inestimable value. Her family cherished her in life and celebrate her transition.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Baber Morris; sisters, Blanche Hardman and Icie Matics; infant daughter, Judith Star; grandson, Job Henry; and three infant grandsons.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Mark Eaton officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today and 1-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
