Jim was born April 7, 1942, in Anamosa, IA, to Kenneth and Evelyn (Thompson) Leggett. He grew up in Onslow, IA and graduated from Onslow High School in 1960. Jim married Judy Bronemann on October 25, 1963. They lived in Monticello, IA through 1975.
Jim worked as a mechanic at Zimmerman Hall in Anamosa, IA before becoming a mechanic with United Parcel Service and moving to Davenport, IA. In 1989, he became an Automotive Supervisor with United Parcel Service and relocated to Urbandale, IA. He remained there until retiring in 2004 after 28 years of service.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, James Leggett, Jr. (Christine Smith-Leggett) of Evansville, WI, Jill Leggett (Phillip Smith) of Tiffin, IA, and Jeff Leggett (Emily Leggett) of Urbandale, IA; brother, Joe Leggett of Wyoming, IA; grandchildren, Travis Leggett (Alex Denk) of Vienna, Austria, Montana and Madison Leggett of Evansville, IA, Cole and Evan Leggett of Urbandale, IA; great-grandchild Max Denk-Leggett of Vienna, Austria. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Leggett.
Family will be available for visitation at 10:00 am Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Iles-Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA. Services will be held at 11:00 am with a luncheon afterwards. Cremation will occur subsequently.
