A member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, he retired from Hickory Fire Department after serving 50 years with the fire department, and was appointed honorary fire chief.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Callanan Frye; and a son, Thomas Lawrence Frye.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Peggy Frye of Chatham, N.J., William (Pat) and Janet Clark Frye of Charlotte and Elizabeth Frye of Beaver Creek, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Tom Loflin of Durham; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery with Father Robert Farris officiating.
Memorials may be made to one's charity or to the Hickory Fire Department.
