Brenda was born January 26, 1953, in Longview, Texas. Having moved to Alexandria, La, when she was in fifth grade, Brenda began to make life-long friends in Central Louisiana. Her family moved again to Lake Charles, La, where she finished high school at LaGrange High School. The following year she entered Louisiana College and graduated with a B.A. degree in sociology.
She and Bobby Pettus married in 1975 and reared two children, Adam and Erin. For the next forty-two years she lived a vibrant life in central Louisiana, investing her caring, creative self in people-centered activities and ministries.
As part of First Baptist Church, Pineville, Brenda served as a pre-school Sunday School teacher and as a member of numerous committees. For twelve years she taught preschool in the Pineville Park Baptist Church Weekday Early Education program. As a result, for the past several decades, various encounters with these little ones—now grown men and women—continued to bring her joy.
Brenda’s creativity found outlets in the Red River Stitchers, a group of knitters whose efforts benefitted countless others; the Red River Dulcimer Ensemble which often plays in nursing homes and other outreach venues; the Woodland Hills Garden Club, and the Alexandria Museum of Art, where she volunteered.
Known to a close group of college friends as Sister, to her nieces as Aunt B, and to her precious granddaughter as Bebe, Brenda will forever be cherished in the hearts of family and hundreds who are privileged to have called her friend.
Preceded in death by her father, Ted Atterbery, she is survived by her mother, Charlene Atterbery; her husband, Bob Pettus; her son, Adam Pettus; her daughter, Erin Pettus Luce; her granddaughter, Bailey Luce; her brother, Ted Atterbery and wife, Glinda; her sisters-in-law Carol Pettus Durr and Linda Pettus Peevy and her husband Mike.
In addition, she will be greatly missed by her nieces and all of their families.
Memorials may be given to the Molly Kate Marcase Memorial Nursery Fund at First Baptist Church, Pineville, Louisiana.
