1931 - 2017
Zelma Bennett Bailey age 86 of Ogden, Utah died the 25th day of September. Mrs. Bailey was born August 30, 1931 in Virginia, Idaho. A daughter of Ralph and Mary Richardson Bennett.
She was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saint and served in the Primary as a teacher and a First Counselor in the Presidency. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and a Relief Society teacher. Zelma worked in the schools as the PTA President and was a chairman on organizations. In England, she worked with learning disabled students and on the school lunch program. While in England, she also worked with the Youth Center.
Zelma married George N. Sprunt, they were later divorced. She married Martin Blaine Smith and they were later divorced. She married Jerome C. Bailey and lived happily together until his death on August 9, 1977.
Zelma loved sewing and making blankets for grandchildren. She enjoyed tending her roses and peonies at her mobile home. She was an avid knick-knack collector of items from all places she visited.
She is survived by her children Faye (Mickey) Hope, Lynda (Gabriel) Vega, Janet (Michael) Battisti and Gary Sprunt Bailey; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Fay Bennett Wheelwright. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings; five children, Scott B. Sprunt, George N. Sprunt, Tina L. Sprunt Heath, Sam M. Bailey, Mary E. Smith; and several grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Primary Children’s Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30-10:40 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery.
