Cecil Fredrick McGee, passed away peacefully September 24, 2017 at Baptist East Hospital at the age of 93.
He was born July 19, 1924 in Louisville, Ky. to the late Cecil C. McGee and Edith McGee.
He was a graduate of Male High School. After serving in the Navy Seabees during WWII, he attended the University of Kentucky where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he taught math at Male High School before starting his 35 year career at Whayne Supply Company. He held various management positions including Manager of the Evansville branch and then VP and Director of Operations during some of Whayne Supply’s early growth and expansion years until his retirement in 1987.
Cecil was a member of Southeast Christian Church and had been actively involved in various church programs and ministries. He was instrumental in bringing Young Life to Louisville in 1975 and had served many years in leadership and service to this outreach ministry. He had a great love and passion for music and singing, which he shared with his wife, Frieda, and was an inspiration to many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth J. McGee.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mayme Frieda McGee; three children, Betsy Carter (Tom,), Jim, and Bill (Hillary); four grandchildren, Greg (Courtney) Carter, Bryan (Risa) Carter, Reed McGee and Halie McGee; four great-grandchildren, Camryn Carter, Ben Carter, Caroline Carter and Lorin Carter.
Funeral Services will be at 11am Saturday September 30th at Southeast Christian Church, 920 Blankenbaker Pkwy with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
