She was born on July 29, 1930 in Rockbridge County to the late Andrew Paulus Floyd and Macy Southers.
She was also preceded by her sister, Rachel Beatrice Floyd.
Nellie was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Buena Vista.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Leslie Thompson; daughters, Nancy T. (Joe) George, Janice B. (Kenneth) Smith; sons, Walter L. (Evelyn) Thompson Jr., Norman F. Thompson; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
A private graveside service will take place at Glasgow Cemetery with Pastor Don Martin officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home.
