Born in Marion on March 25, 1942, to the late Clyde and Kathleen (Wyer) Sewell, Sr., Clyde was a lifelong resident of Grant County. He graduated from Marion High School in 1961. In 1966, Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served as a military police officer until 1968 and was also a pistol marksman. Clyde was a member of the American Legion.
In 1969, Clyde began working at General Motors in Marion, where he was a machine cleaner. He retired in 2004 after 35 years of service. He married Sharon Turner on August 21, 1987, and she survives.
Clyde loved golfing, was a great bowler, and enjoyed fishing. He looked forward to his daily cup of coffee from McDonald's and driving around the county. He loved his family and will be remembered as a funny, practical joker who was truly one of a kind. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sharon; children, Jeff (Beth) Sewell, Kentucky, David (Suzie) Sewell, Kentucky, Eric Sewell, Wabash, Thomas (Nikki) Sewell-Dickison, Gas City, Brad (Stephanie) Sewell-Schuh, Upland, Tom (Robin) McAfee, Colorado, Dave (Jenny) Durkes, Converse, and James (Tamara) Bischoff, Gas City; 25 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie (Mike) Pollard; several nieces, nephews, and friends; and his cats, Lucy, Fred, and Chester.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, David (Jewel) Sewell.
The family will receive visitors September 28, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Services for Clyde will be held immediately following visitation with Pastor Paul McPherson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Marion National Cemetery.
