James Mahlon Weikert, 94, oldest resident of Fairfield who was born in Smithburg Maryland, nearly ten years before the battle of Gettysburg, died at 4:15 this morning at his home of old age infirmities.
He had been in failing health for the past three years.
Mr. Weikert was born August 13, 1853, the son of the late Isaac A and Elizabeth Plank Weikert.
He had resided in Fairfield for the past 35 years. He was a retired farmer and until recently had been employed on odd jobs in Fairfield and vicinity.
He was married to Elizabeth Musselman on January 13, 1881. His wife, who is 87, and five children survive him. Armor M., Gettysburg, Mervin I., and Clarence M., Gettysburg R2;
Mrs. Carrie E Harbaugh, Arlington, Va., and Mary B., at home.
He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Harner, Fairfield R3, Miss Emma J. Weikert, Gettysburg R3 and Mrs. William P Weikert, McKnightstown, and a brother, Harry A., Orrtanna, and 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, august 23, at 2:00 at Zion Lutheran Church, Fairfield with interment in Fairfield Union Cemetery, the Rev. Dr. Norman S Wolf officiating
